We will always provide an initial estimate of costs based on information made known to us at the outset, and we will provide a further more accurate estimate of the legal costs once we have assessed the estate.

Total costs would therefore be in the region of £1,110 and £3,700 plus VAT**. The exact cost will depend on the individual circumstances of the matter. For example, if there is one beneficiary and no property, costs will be at the lower end of the range. This estimate is for estates where:

Disbursements (these are costs related to your matter that are payable to third parties, such as court fees):

POTENTIAL ADDITIONAL COSTS: If there is no will or the estate consists of any share holdings (stocks and bonds) there is likely to be additional costs that could range significantly depending on the estate and how it is to be dealt with. We can give you a more accurate quote once we have more information.

ESTIMATED TIMESCALE: On average, standard, straightforward estates with no inheritance tax to pay are dealt with within 4-8 months. Typically, obtaining the grant of probate can take 8 to 16 weeks at the present time.

* Please note our fees DO NOT include the cost of legal work undertaken to sell or transfer an estate property.  A separate estimate can be provided for this.

For estates over £100,000, we may also make an additional charge based on a percentage of the value of the cash assets in the estate at 1% and 0.5% on property, plus VAT**.
